INVITATIONS TO WORSHIP

The Evangelism Committee is encouraging us to reach a goal of inviting 300 people to Glade Run this year.  To help you achieve this goal, invitations have been printed and are available in the baskets near the entrances to the sanctuary.  Please take a few of these invitations and “invite” someone to join you for worship.  So far we have invited 45 people to church.  We have 255 to go!!!!  Don’t forget to let us know if you invite so that we can keep a tally towards our goal.

NEW MEMBER CLASS

Pastor Greg is leading a class for prospective new members.  If you are interested in becoming a member of Glade Run or are just curious about what membership is all about, then this is a class you won’t want to miss.  There will be 3 sessions: Sundays, May 11, May 18 & May 25.  The classes will be held in Pastor Greg’s study from 10:00-10:50am.  Contact Pastor Greg or call the church office (724-898-3503) if you are interested.

SUMMER CAMPING

The Camping Assoc of the Presbyteries of Northwestern Pennsylvania exists to provide churches and individuals an opportunity to participate in many different events and programs. For more information about Camp Lambec and Westminster Highlands and what they offer, contact the church office.

WHO IS GRADUATING THIS SPRING?

If you or someone you know is graduating from high school, college or any other institution of higher learning, we would like to recognize their achievement.  Please call the church office, 724-898-3503, and let us know.

BIRTHDAY OFFERING

The Presbyterian Women Birthday Offering will be collected next Sunday, May 11.  Since 1922 this offering has distributed 25 million dollars to be used in missions throughout the world.  The needs of women and children are especially emphasized.

PRAYER GATHERING

Join us next Sunday evening, May 18, at 7:00pm, as we lift our prayers of joy and concern up to the Lord.  Refreshments will be served.

SUMMER MUSIC

We are looking for people who enjoy sharing their musical talent.  As the choirs take the summer months off, we need to fill in with other music.  This is an opportunity for you to share God’s gift of music on Sundays this summer.  Call the church office at 724-898-3503 or Carol Jamison at 724-538-9817 (cajamis5@aol.com) and let us know if you can help out.

WANTED: PEOPLE WITH PERSONALITY...

We are looking for some “people with personality” to lead our Sunday morning Junior Church program.  You only need to commit to 20 minutes per Sunday - once every 2 - 3 months!  This is a great way to work with younger children in our church - and introduce them to the Lord.  Lesson plans and activities are already prepared - we just need you!  If you are interested in volunteering to help with this children's ministry, please contact Laura Painter @ 724-586-2194 or Rebecca Wirtz @ 724-898-9602.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

A worship service is conducted at Sunnyview Nursing Home every Sunday.  Sally McIntyre and Dick Swain help out with that service once a month.  They are looking for volunteers to help get the patients (mainly by wheelchairs) to the service.  The services are conducted at 2:00pm.  If you would be willing to help out, call Sally at 724-290-3595 or Dick at 724-898-2576.

ARE YOU READY FOR A PICNIC?

Is Old Man Winter bringing you down? Are you tired of shoveling snow and freezing rain simultaneously? Well we have the cure for you!!  The annual GRUPC family picnic is scheduled for June 1, 2008 and we are looking for some weather weary folks to lend a hand and organize this fun-for-all event.  So dust off your lawn chairs, get your sunglasses ready and contact Rebecca Wirtz at 724-898-9602 or wirtz99@yahoo.com to see how you can help!

LOOKING AHEAD

It’s already time to start thinking about VBS!!!!  This year Vacation Bible School will be held the week of June 23. Mark your calendar.  Registration forms will be coming out soon.

WEIGHT WATCHERS

A Weight Watchers program continues to meet here on Tuesday evenings. They meet in the Youth Room.  Weigh-in is at 5:30pm and the meeting begins at 6:00pm.  This program is open to anyone who is interested.

LET’S PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY PERSONNEL

We are seeking the names of your relatives or friends who are serving in the military.  Let’s remember them this holiday season with our prayers, cards and letters.  A bulletin board to honor these men and women is in the planning stages.  If you know of anyone you would like to be remembered, call the church office with their name and address.  If you have a picture of this individual, give it to Diana Rieger or drop it off at the church office.

A short autobiography of our pastor, Greg Wiest

Greg Wiest was unanimously accepted  as our new pastor and officially took the post here at Glade Run on January 13, 2004. In a short statement, he tells us his history:

I was born in Southern California on a Naval Base in 1963.  Since my father was a career naval officer, my family moved around quite a bit while I was growing up.  Over the years I have lived in California, Alaska, Maryland, Bermuda, Virginia, North Carolina and now Pennsylvania.  I and my brother and sister grew up in a Christian home; my parents always found a church for us to attend wherever we lived.

I personally became a follower of Jesus Christ at the age of 5 while a attending a Good News Club in our neighborhood.  As a teenager, I recommitted my life to Christ and grew in my faith through involvement in Young Life and my church.  I owe much of my spiritual development to my Young Life leader, Pat Goodman.

I attended college at Virginia Tech, where I met my wife at the freshmen mixer during the first week of classes.  Laura and I were involved in Campus Crusade for Christ and then in Young Life leadership.  I graduated with a business finance degree and Laura earned an accounting degree in 1986.(We were married the summer that we graduated)  Following school, I worked in insurance and Laura worked as a CPA.  Our home church was Third Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Va.

After college I felt the call to ministry and through the guidance of our pastor I enrolled at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia in 1989.  I attended Seminary and graduated in 1992.  Our son Nathan was born while we were in seminary. (Before he was able to speak, Nathan attended Greek class with me)  Our first call to ministry was to Pineland Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, NC.  We ministered to the Church in North Carolina for 6 years during which our 2 daughters, Maggie and Claire, were born.  We were blessed at this church with numerical and spiritual growth.

For the last 5 and 1/2 years we have been at Union Presbyterian Church.  Here also we have grown in our faith and the church has grown as well.  This coming summer I will have completed 12 years of ministry in the Presbyterian Church USA.  My gifts in ministry are in the area of preaching and evangelism. I also have made a point to disciple people on a steady basis throughout my walk with Christ.  I have passion for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with lost people showing them how to walk with the Lord.

A "relief room," "cry room,"  or "play room" where parents may take children (but not leave the service) who need to play or cry is available to you.  During worship in the sanctuary, parents may use the Emma Dean Anderson Room. During worship in the Worship Center, parents may use the preschool room.  These are for children not in the nursery.
