God Loves Me?
In John 3:16 we read, "For God so loved the world."
But what about His love for individuals? The rest of the verse reveals
the central purpose behind God's sacrifice of His Son: "That whoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Therefore, without
exception, every person may interpret John 3:16 like this: "For God so
loved me!"
A. B. Simpson, a great missionary of the past, often hugged a globe
to his chest and wept over the world's lostness. Yet his global vision
was marked by compassion for individuals. We must also feel the responsibility
to take the gospel to our world -- by sharing the good news with one person
at a time.
Unfortunately, we often think of the Great Commission
in terms of "foreign missions" only. "World missions" is perhaps a better
term, for that includes our nearest neighbors, who are part of the world
to which God has called us. And we are already there!
Like A. B. Simpson, we need to embrace our smaller
world through earnest prayer as we consider lost individuals in our families,
neighborhoods, and workplaces. Then, as we seek to live and give the good
news, expect God to open doors of opportunity. We will make a positive
difference locally, nationally and globally -- one person sharing the Good
News with another!!!
You Never Know!
The Lord uses the most unexpected situations and unlikely ways to bring
people to Himself. Our responsibility as Christians is simple and clear:
Share the gospel where a lost world can hear it.
Francisco Ramos, a missionary to Spain, is an example of one who was
brought to Christ through unusual circumstances. A native of Portugal,
he traveled to England to look for work. Because a dangerous aneurysm had
been discovered in his father's brain, Francisco had begun asking hard
questions about life.
Ramos took a shortcut through Hyde Park one day, his heart aching and
his mind filled with questions. A young man was preaching about Jesus,
and Ramos stopped to listen. In straightforward, unmistakable terms, he
heard the plan of salvation. Later that day he encountered another believer
selling Christian books. He bought a copy of Billy Graham's Peace with
God, not knowing what it was. He read the book that night and trusted in
Christ as his Savior. Now he and his wife Stephanie are serving the Lord
as missionaries.
Let's find ways to tell others about Jesus and His love and power to
save all who call on Him. We never know what God is doing in someone's
heart.
The next person you meet
may need to meet Christ.

Short-Term
Mission Guidelines
2000
The short-term mission ministry of Glade Run Church exists to provide
opportunities for the people of Glade Run to be sent out to spread the
GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ and to grow in personal discipleship through
local, national and international short-term mission experiences.
What is a Short-Term Mission?
-
A short-term mission experience is defined as someone going on a mission
trip for one year or less who does not intend at the time to become a career
missionary.
What is Call, Commissioning and Sharing?
-
Each member is accountable to the group and his/her leader as to call,
commissioning and sharing. Group leaders are to secure statements
from each member of their group about why they feel called to go on this
mission trip.
-
The leader/individual should schedule a time for commissioning by the church
family on a Sunday prior to departure.
-
Upon returning from the experience, adults will be asked to share
with the congregation the things that God has shown them on this mission
trip by doing a brief Focus on Mission at the Saturday at
6 p.m. and the 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday services. Groups or
individuals may invite the congregation to hear more during the LIFE and
Nurture hour sometime in the near future. This may be arranged before
you leave or shortly after you return home. Please make the announcement
to the congregation and to the LIFE and Nurture teachers at least two weeks
in advance so their plans can be made.
-
Young people will also be asked to share their experiences.
Please contact the Short-Term Mission Team for guidelines and approval.
Who May Receive Funding?
-
Any active participant in the life and ministry of Glade Run Church may
receive funding (from the Short-Term Mission budget) up to 50% of the total
cost of their trip (including transportation) up to a maximum of $700.
Amounts in excess of $700 will require the approval of Session. Please
prayerfully consider all requests for funding from the Short-Term Mission
budget.
-
Friends and non-members of Glade Run may receive 25% of the total cost
of their trip (up to a maximum of $700) upon approval of the Short-Term
Mission ministry team.
How Can I/We Receive Funding?
-
Submit a written request for funding to the Short-Term Mission ministry
team. If you are participating in a group trip, the group leader
is responsible for this step. The written request shall include a
cost breakdown of the trip and a team statement of why you feel called
to this particular mission and what you will be doing while in the mission
field.
-
Group leaders should obtain a Trip Summary form from the Short-Term Mission
ministry team. This form is to be completed at the end of the mission
trip and returned to the Short-Term Mission ministry team.
What About Fundraising?
-
All fundraising must be pre-approved by the Short-Term Mission ministry
team. Each mission team is permitted no more than 2 or 3 fundraisers.
-
Submit a written request for fundraising to the Short-Term Mission team.
This request is to include the following: who from the group is doing the
activity; what the activity is; when and where it will occur; why the activity
is being requested and what are the goals to be achieved through this activity.
-
Contact the Short-Term Mission financial secretary once you receive fundraiser
approval. All monies made through fundraisers and collected for mission
trips shall be given to the Short-Term Mission financial secretary to record.
This will ensure proper credit for all monies received and disbursed.
